About Us

How It All Started
We met on the marching band field - literally. As fellow musicians, being creative is just a part of us. When we exited college and entered "the real world" music became less of a focus, but we still needed a creative outlet.

Our Story
Heath had always dabbled in woodworking, but started really honing his skills in 2020. He enrolled in some courses at the Chicago School of Woodworking and started building his shop shortly thereafter.
Christy found pyrography and drawing completely by accident - who knew you could start art as an adult?!? She started burning various shapes onto scrap pieces of wood Heath had leftover from projects and pretty soon, she was asking him to make pieces specifically for her to burn.
Ink drawings grew out of pyrography projects, mainly as a way to sketch out ideas.
And leatherwork is our newest family member, and one we both enjoy. It's meditative to stitch by hand.

Our Approach
For us, creativity is a part of mental health. The more we create, the better we feel overall. So, learning and trying new things is always fun, and that's why many of our projects are so varied.
We also do (almost) everything by hand. From drawing pyrography to leather stitching, we take the slow approach. We strive for high quality with everything we do, but we have learned that perfection is nearly impossible. That's the beauty of something being made by hand -- every single piece is unique. That said, we have learned many techniques to help ensure mistakes are kept to a minimum, and if they do happen, we have curated the skills to make them nearly invisible.

Why So Many Different Things?
We love learning new things. We've always been makers, but we like to adapt skills and try to projects. Leathercraft is our newest endeavor and who knows what will be next? Life is a journey and so is how we approach our craft.
